A Texas lawyer recently posted a vile and hateful tweet about Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to his personal twitter page.

In his tweet, Mr. Ranco expresses his support for a hypothetical sexual assault of Secretary DeVos. His comment is an apparent reaction to the Secretary’s recent announcement that her department is considering changes to its policy concerning the manner in which colleges and universities investigate and adjudicate allegations of sexual assault on campus. The current Obama-era policies have drawn harsh criticism from civil rights experts, criminal defense lawyers, prosecutors, and constitutional law attorneys who argue that college students who are accused of sexual assault are denied even the most basic due process rights.
Mr. Ranco’s tweet generated a harsh backlash on social media. Soon thereafter, the offending tweet was deleted. Ranco then changed his Twitter account settings to make his tweets private. Finally, he deleted his account altogether.
